Rafael M. Rodriguez, M.D


Dr. Rafael Rodriguez was born in Habana, Cuba in 1957. He obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Este San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Rodriguez completed an Internal Medicine residency  at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He then completed a Neurology residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore where he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Rodriguez is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, The American Board of EEG and Neurophysiology and the American Board of Clinical Neurology. He is a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist by the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.  Dr. Rodriguez is member of the American Academy of Neurology, The American Medical Association, The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, The Hillsborough County Medical Association and the Tampa Bay Latin American Medical Society which he presided from 2006-2008. 

Dr. Rodriguez has won several awards, among them the Caregiver of the Year Award and The Beacon of Light Award from the Epilepsy Foundation, as well as the Physician of the Year Award from the Tampa Bay Latin American Medical Society. In December 2015 issue of the Tampa Bay Magazine, a physician survey carried out in the Bay area, Dr. Rodriguez was selected by his peers as one of the best neurologists in Tampa.

Dr. Rodriguez and his wife Esther Genis have two children, Rafael and Richard. In his leisure time he enjoys Judo, Fishing, Golf, Salsa and Merengue dancing and Traveling. In Judo he is a black belt 2nd degree and was state champion in 1998 (first place age division and first place open age division at the Sunshine State Games held in Tampa, FL).
